The Revered Father Mark Nana Yaw Asare, Assistant Parish Priest of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at Odorkor, in Accra, has asked husbands who have been assaulting their wives to put an immediate stop to the practice.
He said wives deserve respect and love from their husbands rather than being subjected to beatings.
Rev. Fr. Asare gave the advice yesterday in his homily to commemorate Mothers Day.
He said it was also against the social norms of society for children to insult their mothers who toil through difficult moments to cater for them.
Children must learn to be obedient to their mothers, he said and prayed that the Good Lord blesses mothers who toil to cater for their children.
He admonished the congregation to also pray for more vocations and encourage those serving in the Lords vineyard.
Rev. Father Asare later prayed for all mothers and would-be mothers in the church.
A special birthday cake presented by the youth of the church was cut and shared among all mothers.
Mrs. Audrey Mensah, wife of the president of the church cut the cake to commemorate the day, celebrated on the every second Sunday of May in Ghana to show love and gratitude to mothers.
