The vigilance of the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Central Tongu has resulted in the arrest of three employees of the assembly�s store last Saturday.
Madam Mary Theodora Agbenyemu, the DCE, acting on a tip-off, laid ambush at the premises of the assembly at about 5 a.m. on Saturday and caused the arrest of Joshua Asilevi, a driver of the Information Services Department, who used his private car to pick some items from the store.
Two others, Mr. Edwin Ahiakpor, 52, storekeeper, and Michael Awoah Otu, 43, the Works Engineer, were arrested later.
When Asilevi was interrogated, he mentioned the storekeeper as the one who asked him to cart the items.
When the police moved to Mr. Ahiakpor�s house, they found streetlights, mercury bulbs, computers and their accessories, �Better Ghana Agenda� School Uniforms, wall clocks igniters, five boxes of machetes, UPS and teaching and learning materials all valued at GH17,000, belonging to the assembly.
He mentioned Mr. Michael Amoah Otu as one of his accomplices and he was also arrested.
ASP Eric Okpata, the officer in-charge of Adidome Police Station, confirmed the arrests to The Ghanaian Times yesterday.
He said Mr. Ahiakpor and Amoah Otu have been charged with conspiracy, and stealing, while Mr. Asilevi has been charged with abetment.
