Celebrated Professor of History, Ivor Amanor Wilks has died, a family source has said. The Professor Emeritus who has been unwell for several months, passed on, Wednesday, October 7.
He was father to BBC journalist, David Amanor of (Focus on Africa and 5th Floor) fame.
He was known for his writings on Ashanti Kings and Kingdom.
Professor Wilks was instrumental in the setting up of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana, Legon, and chronicled the rise of the Asante Kingdom in the 19th century.
His most famous work �Asante in the 19th Century� is still a standard text book today for many students of African History around the world.
He�s the author of over 178 published works mostly about Ghana. Some of his other famous works include, Forests of Gold, Wa and the Wala, and Akwamu � A Study of the Rise and Fall of a West African Empire.
