AN INMATE at Bogoso Police Station in the Eastern region has been reported to have committed suicide on Tuesday dawn in the cell.
Inspector Foster Berkoh told the DAILY HERITAGE that the 37-year-old taxi driver, Benjamin Taye from Somanya was brought to the police station on Monday by a crowd for stealing a KIA Astera and was detained in the cell.
He explained that when the deceased was brought to the cell, he managed to escape from the crowd that brought him to the station, but the crowd went after him and brought him back to the station.
The police officer said when they detained the deceased, he was left with his singlet and pant and was the only inmate at the cell that evening until he committed the suicide.
According to him, his men who were on duty yesterday saw the deceased dead with his singlet around his neck hanging on the window of the cell bar. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Akropong Government hospital.
