The Tarkwa circuit Court on Tuesday fined Kojo Appiah and Kojo Mensu, both farmers, 120 Ghana cedis for illegally mining in the Bonsa River Forest Reserve and for possessing fire arms without lawful authority.
They pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided by Mr. Justice Asante that the complainants are foresters working with the Forestry Division of the Forestry Commission in Tarkwa.
He said on October 24 the foresters received information that some illegal miners were mining in the Bonsa River Forest Reserve.
Chief Inspector Amponsah said the complainants organized some personnel of the Division to track down the illegal miners and arrested them.
He said a single barrel gun was found in the possession of Appiah but he could not produce documents covering.
