Four men are reported trapped under water after the vehicle on which they were travelling from Asamankese to Kade in the Kwaebibirim District of the Eastern Region plunged into the Birim River.
It is unclear if the four are alive yet, but eyewitnesses say it has been over an hour since the harrowing incident occurred.
Fire personnel and policemen are reported to be at the scene but have found it difficult to reach the all-men passengers as the drowned vehicle has only parts of the tyres above water and the doors firmly locked.
An eyewitness claimed the vehicle which is said to belong to a company producing palm oil in the area, slipped into the river after the driver had tried unsuccessfully to drive past a broken bridge.
