A 19-year-old student has been fined GH350 by the Amasaman District Court for disturbing his neighbours by playing loud music at night. Samuel Asare, who operates a drinking spot close to the complainants house, pleaded guilty to the offence of causing nuisance.
If Asare fails to pay the fine, he will serve four months in prison.
Presenting the facts to the court, the prosecutor, Sergeant Nashiru Salifu, said the complainant, Afua Konadu, a trader, and Asare are both residents of Omanjor in the Greater Accra Region.
He said Asare had a set of musical instruments which he played loudly every night at his drinking spot, disturbing Afuas peace, as well as that of other people in the neighbourhood.
Sgt Salifu said after several attempts by Afua to get Asare to desist from the act failed, she reported the case to the Ga South Municipal Assembly.
He said Asare was summoned by the assembly and warned to lower the volume of the music and also close the bar by 9 p.m.
The prosecutor said Asare failed to adhere to the warning and continued to disturb the peace with his music.
Sgt Salifu said between 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on October 2, 2014, Asare opened his musical instrument so loud that nobody within the community could the situation.
He said Afua then rushed to the police and made a report and Asare was arrested and charged with the offence, after investigations.
