Ghanaian actor, Bill Asamoah, has appealed to corporate institutions and philanthropists to be supportive of pro-poor initiatives intended to bring relief to the underprivileged in the society.

He said in a developing country where poverty abounds, it would not be out of place for the well-to-do to contribute meaningfully to programmes designed to improve the living conditions of the less-privileged.

“Is is our collective responsibility to ensure that those who do not have are sheltered, fed and also given a meaning to live”, he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi.

This was on the sidelines of a fund-raising ceremony to mobilize resources for the construction of a project dubbed “My Story Village”, a proposed multi-purpose facility which would include a school, hospital and orphanage.

The project, being executed by My Story Foundation, a civil society organization (CSO), is structured to cater for the needs of the physically-challenged, as well as orphans and the underprivileged by providing free basic education, healthcare and other social interventions.

Actor Asamoah, who has been chosen as Ambassador for the project, lauded Mr. Collins Amo Poku, Founder of the CSO, for his vision and determination to alleviate the plight of the poor.

He promised to get his colleague actors on board for the successful execution of the project.

Mr. Amo Poku said currently the Foundation was taking care of more than hundred needy people, including some physically-challenged persons who had undergone surgery to correct deformities.

The Village, he said, when completed, would serve as an abode for the hopeless, and urged the public to come to their aid.
