A Half Assini Magistrate’s court in Western Region, has fined a 24-year-old physically challenged man 30 penalty units or GH₵ 360.00 for causing harm.
He pleaded guilty.
The court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu, ordered the convict to also compensate the complainant in the case, Mr Francis Ackah, with GH₵ 150.00.
Police Sergeant Isaac E. Otoo, said the complainant who hails from Samanye near Mpataba is a welding apprentice at Bawia while the convict is self acclaimed class six pupil at Samenye District Assembly Primary School.
He said about 17 hours on March 4, a witness in the case, informed the complainant that the convict had insulted him resulting in a confrontation between Mr Ackah and the physically challenged person on phone.
The prosecutor said the convict reported to the complainant's Uncle, Kojo; at Samenye that his nephew had threatened to kill him.
He said about 1920 hours on the same day when the complainant was returning home, the convict who was armed with a cutlass and lying in wait for him pounced on him and inflicted a deep cut in his scalp.
According to the prosecutor the complainant bled profusely and was rushed to Eikwe Catholic Hospital where he was admitted.
He said convict hid the cutlass in a thatch roof of one Mr Abubakari's ware house and escaped to Tikobo Number one where he was hiding until March 13, when he was arrested.
