Five people were killed when a KIA truck, loaded with bags of sachet water, run over a taxi on which they were travelling from Jamasi to Asante-Mampong.
The deceased, including the cab driver, are yet to be identified and their bodies had been deposited at Mampong Hospital Mortuary.
Police Superintendent Yaw Obeng Asubonteng, the Mampong Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency and said it took about an hour to cut through the wreckage to remove the bodies.
The truck’s brake was believed to be malfunctioning, whilst descending a slope and in the process crashed into the taxi.
Supt Asubonteng said the police have launched a manhunt to arrest the truck driver, who fled the scene after the crash.
He renewed his appeal to drivers plying the Mampong road to be careful, avoid speeding and observe traffic regulations to prevent fatalities.
