Thousands of traders at the Kejetia market have been demonstrating for months over their relocation to make way for the commencement of an ultra modern market.
The mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu has assured them the project will be in their best interest despite doubts expressed by the traders.
The market, which is said to be the first in the West African sub-region, would also serve neighbouring countries, considering the closeness of Kumasi to other neighbouring countries.
The project is expected to cost government about $298 million.
