The Minister of Communication Dr Edward Omane Boamah on Friday handed over fully-equipped Enhanced Community Information Centers (E-CICs) to two communities in the Volta region.

The centers which are fully equipped with computers, broadband and wireless connectivity is expected to bridge the digital gap between the rural an urban communities as well as promote Information and Communication Technology (ICT) applications to support education, health delivery and other e-transactions.

“Businesses can also begin to enhance their operations. We have put in place an e-registrar portal for the Registrar Generals Department. And so through the power of internet and ICT if someone wants to register a business, you can use this to register. We are also putting in place several e-services and so through the internet you would be able to access a lot of the e-services that we are providing” he said.

The two communities; Keta and Battor according to the minister were among the 21 districts earmarked to benefit from these facilities in the country.

He added that “similar structures have been deployed in 21 districts and have all been completed. Keta, Battor and Kpetoe were selected from the Volta region,” he explained.

He admonished residents of the three communities to take advantage of the facilities to enhance themselves in areas of Information Technology and to benefit from the e-government business development.
