Africa fashion is gradually gaining global attention and to compete on that stage, Vlisco has established a tailor academy master program to motivate, equip and empower fifteen (15) selected talented dressmakers.

In an address by Mr. Stephen Badu, the Marketing Director of the company, he disclosed that the aim of the program is to support young under privileged women and men to meet their financial autonomy through an integrated Vlisco tailoring education program.

In September, 2014, the program was launched and Mr. Badu was pleased to inform the gathering that the first batch of students would be graduating soon.  Unlike the first batch student which was made up of only females, he explained that the current batch included men.

Shedding more light on how the program has evolved ever since it was introduced last year, he explained that in the past they only admitted young ladies with no tailoring experience; but ditched that move this year to recruit talented Ghanaian tailors, dressmakers and designers.

This he adds is to enable the selected candidates compete on the global fashion stage.

“Following the lessons we picked from the first edition, we decided to make a few modification to this particular program. The main change being the upgrading of the curriculum program to a master class level”, he said.
