The Chairman of the Koforidua Butchers Association, Mr Yussif Alhassan has warned the public to be careful with meat sold at unhygienic places, which could pose a threat to their health.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency in Koforidua, Mr Alhassan said, meat produce by members of the association goes through a number of processes such as inspections by the veterinary officials and health officials of the New Juaben Municipal Assembly to ensure that their produce are safe for public consumption .
He expressed worry about thieves who invade the slaughter house at night to steal livestock in the kraals.
He therefore pleaded with the Assembly to help fence the slaughter house to avert these problems.
The Association, Mr Alhassan explained needs sheds at the slaughter house to enable butchers carry out their duties effectively during the rainy season.
He indicated that, the Association does not have a van to convey their produce to the central business market.
Mr Alhassan called on the public to stop taking in imported meat and patronise local meat to help boost indigenous business.
