The Chief Fire Officer, Dr. Albert Brown Gaisie, has called for intensification of fire safety education to radically reduce what he said was the unacceptably high incidents of fire outbreaks.

He said he found it deeply troubling, particularly, the situation in the Ashanti Region, where 11 separate fire disasters were recorded within a space of one month.

It was time the regional and district fire officers stepped up their game and did everything to stop things from getting worse, he added.

Dr. Gaise was speaking after visiting some fire victims in Asante-Mampong and Santasi in Kumasi.

He advised the people to heed fire safety education - avoid the use of substandard cables, overloading of electrical appliances or doing anything that could trigger fire outbreak.

He used the opportunity to remind personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to act professionally at all times.

He warned that indiscipline and unethical conduct would not be tolerated.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Semekor Fiadzor, the Regional Fire Officer, said they had mounted intensive public education campaign to aid fire prevention.

He said they had been going to the communities, schools, lorry terminals, churches and mosques, to create fire safety awareness – the need to ensure that electrical wiring and installations were done by qualified electricians.
