The Eastern Regional Minister, Ms. Mavis Ama Frimpong, has asked the Department of Urban Roads to include roads running through residential areas in the New Juaben municipality in its routine maintenance.
She said the focus should not be on only the main roads but those in places where the people were residing, as well.
Ms. Frimpong made the call during an inspection of some roads in the municipality.
She was particularly unhappy with the condition of the Koforidua-Adweso SSNIT Flats road and said urgent attention needed to be given to it.
The Adweso SSNIT Flats used to be a plush residential area in Koforidua but it has lost its prestige because of the deplorable nature of the roads there.
The Minister urged the department to collaborate with the municipal assembly and the management of the Metro Mass Transport Company to seal potholes at the main terminal of the company, right in the centre of Koforidua, the regional capital.
Mr Osei Sekyere, the Regional Director of the Department, indicated that some roads in the residential areas had been rehabilitated and mentioned among them, the Acheampong, Abugri, Nyamekrom, Pipeline, Two Streams and Agavenya roads.
He said the Old Estate-Nyamekrom road and the Abogri roads were also being considered for tarring, adding that, the Kofoidua Magazine roads had already been awarded on contract.
