The extraordinary bravery of a wounded police officer foiled a robbery attack on a bullion van - carrying money to Donkorkrom in the Kwahu Afram North District.
The robbers had ambushed the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) van at the Asisi Farms near Tease in the Afram Plains South, shot the driver right in the eye, killing him instantly, while the policeman escorting the vehicle suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
He still gathered courage to engage the criminals in a firefight, sending them fleeing into the bush.
Police Superintendent Isaac Obeng Dompreh, the Tease Divisional Commander, who confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the incident happened in broad daylight on Tuesday.
He vowed that everything would be done to track down, arrest and bring the robbers to justice.
The injured police officer is receiving treatment at the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital, the very same facility, where the body of the deceased had been deposited for autopsy.
