The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed reports, that some four thousand staff of the service will soon be removed from its payroll.

This comes after reports, on social media sites, suggesting that government intends laying off about four thousand teachers, in order to meet policies of International Monetary Fund (IMF), in 2017.

The reports further stated that, the Finance Minister, Minister of Education and other stakeholders took this decision as part of strategies to cut down government expenditure.

But the Public Relations Officer of the GES, Rev. Jonathan Bettey told Citi News the reports are totally false.

“The Ghana Education Service wishes to inform the entire public most especially our teachers that the information is not true. There is no iota of truth in that information and neither the Minister nor Ghana Education Service has ordered anybody from the GES to delete anybody’s name.”

Rev. Bettey noted that the “service has no problem with its teachers for now, everything is on course” and that “the payment of teachers’ salaries, arrears is going on smoothly.”

When asked about the source of the supposed false reports, the PRO said “we don’t know where exactly this story is coming from.”

“Social media has come to play a role of confusion into people’s life which we want to reject this information, it is not coming from the Ghana Education Service or the Ministry of Education,” he added.
