Some major companies within the industrial enclave of the Takoradi Metropolis: GHACEM, Takoradi Harbour, Ghana Bauxite Company, the Manganese Company, Flour Mills, among others have been cut off the national grid as a result of cable theft.
The theft plunged the entire metropolis into total darkness early Friday morning.
Officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Western Region say it may take a day or two to fix the problem and get the area back on the grid.
The thieves, according to officials, stole about 620 metres of underground cable. The theft is estimated to cost ECG about GHS1million.
