The Electoral Commission (EC) has expressed utter shock and disappointment at the voter turnout in this year’s general elections.
According to the Chairperson of the commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, the voter turnout is 49% based on collated results from 210 constituencies out of 275.
A total of about 15,712,499 eligible voters were expected to participate in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The 49% voter turnout is the lowest since Ghana returned to multi-party democracy when its first election was held in 1992.
“We are pretty disappointed at the turnout so far, based on the collated results from 210 constituencies.
The provisional turnout for the election is about 49%. This is way below our history in elections,” Mrs. Charlotte Osei said in a short press briefing.

Just declare and stop the nonfa. When they complained about a bloated register what was your reaction.
The votes of the two leading presidential results which has crossed the 9,000,000 limit indicates that we have crossed the 59% mark already so we may hit 70% by the end so I do not know how that calculation but we are waiting the broadcast tomorrow.
Charlotte Osei's calculations may not be correct because even the votes for Nana Addo and President Mahama for the 210 constituencies is more than 9,400,000. If voter register is less than 16,000,000. She has therefore made a mistake in the calculations.
But how can Mrs Charlotte Osei do sach a thing.pls we beg you to come out of the correct fingers crossed to mentain the peace in Ghana.thank you
