The chiefs and elders of Agavedzi division of Somey Traditional Area in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region whose area faces extinction as a result of tidal waves are set to storm the national capital with their grievances.
The chiefs strongly believe if the central government does not immediately expedite action to salvage the situation, their community would completely be wiped out. The Dufia of Agavedzi, Torgbui Akpornoguia at a press briefing at Agavedzi to express their frustrations threatened to hit the streets of Accra, particularly the Flagstaff House to ensure that their demands are met, TV3 Volta Regional respondent Robert Abilba reports. The recent tidal waves on last Sunday destroyed more houses and properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis there. An estimated 700 residents have been displaced in the area whilst houses numbering about 200 have also been lost to the sea.
The unbearable situation has led to an increased number of internal refugees without place to rest their heads, some are forced to pair with families and friends as they wait for government’s intervention, Robert observed. The chiefs in drumming home their frustration asked government to come to their aid as soon as possible or else the seat of government would be their next resettlement area. Meanwhile, residents have given a one month ultimatum to government to fix the situation or would join their chiefs to hit the streets of Accra to demand what they called “fair share of the national cake”.

I suspect the of this town was given a V8 to roam about. He forgot about the development. In the interim, nt of the town. My advise is that, complain to your non-performing MP, the DCE,then Regional Minister in that order. Let them lobby and pray that your concerns are included in the next budget, then wait and see. In the interim, apply the resources you will use to drive to Accra to initiate something to save your town for people to know you are serious and come to your aid. Or, if you want to threaten or intimidate this new government, it will backfire. After all, you have endured your situation for God knows when. And you have been very faithful to your NDC since time immemorial. Your time will come, at the appropriate time. WAIT!
They should talk to their MP: Fiifi Kwetey.
Where have the World Bank supporters been all this while or are they equally as confused as their Ndc executives. They should wait till next budget. After all they have lived with this over the last 8 years why complain. We will also attend to our world first. Next time they should vote wisely.
I thought Koko Anyidoho and his likes said all Volta Region problems have been solved.
I agree, there exist some national cake we all must share but why now?. If the Volta Chiefs have a genuine concern, they must be patient and wait for their turn in terms the larger developmental needs of the entire nation. I only hope that they were not afraid of their own Mahama.
This is nansense Did the Tidal Waves start 7 January, 2017 ungrateful ndc ewes
As usual, such small mindedness. When did the erosion start and why do they want to demonstrate now. Some people
These guys are NDC nitwits. Why didn't they pressure the Mills-Mahama regime to solve the problem for them these past 8 years. Let them storm Flagstaff House. I hope they do, then the current NPP government can let them stew and loose their land. They aren't going to vote for NPP no matter what the NPP government does, so I say teach them some sense. Let them stew. Ha! Ha! Ha!
THIS IS NOT A WAY TO REGISTER YOUR GRIEVANCES.IF YOU HAVE ANY GRIEVANCE, YOU SHOULD SEND IT BY LETTER OR PERSONALLY TO THE OFFICE OF THE REGIONAL MINISTER AND MARK OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT. YOU CAN'T JUST DEMONSTRATE AT STATE HOUSE TO SHOW YOUR GRIEVANCES.DID GOVERNMENT GIVE YOU THOSE PLOTS OF LAND? WHEN YOU STAY NEAR THE SEASHORE AND IT IS A DANGER DO YOU HAVE TO PROTEST THE GOVERNMENT? YOU HAVE TO MOVE TO WHERE IT IS SAFER FOR YOU.PLEASE TELL GOVERNMENT TO HELP RESETTLE YOU OR BUILD SEA DEFENCE SHIELD FOR YOU, BUT NOT BY DEMONSTRATION.
