Naa Puowele Karbo, Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Council said on Thursday that the one district, one factory and one village, one dam policy of government were his preferred projects.

He said the implementation of those projects would enable districts and communities to mobilise and harness resources available for industrial development.

The Lawra –Naa therefore appealed to government not to abandon the execution of those projects because others were on the queue awaiting to take away the policy should government fail to carry them out.

Naa Karbo said this when Mr Sulemana Alhassan, Upper West Regional Minister paid a working visit to the Lawra Traditional Council to introduce himself to traditional rulers and heads of government departments and agencies, and also solicit their support and counselling to effectively administer the affairs of the region.

He said Ghanaians must change from the campaign mood and brace up for the implementation of development projects which the government was rolling out.

He said government must collaborate effectively with traditional rulers to strengthen and ensure good governance at the grassroots level.

On illegal mining, the Lawra-Naa pledged the unflinching support of the Lawra Traditional Council to government to address the menace of the activities of illegal miners on the environment, especially the water bodies.

“There is no logic to allow illegal mining to take place in the entire country simultaneously”, he said,  while expressing disappointment that chiefs in some communities along the Black Volta River never reported to him about the activities of illegal miners on the river, which provided the livelihoods of the people in the district.

He urged them to be vigilant and report the activities of the miners and any other pollution on the river to the traditional council for action to be taken against them.

He commended government for appointing a son and a daughter from the region in the persons of Ambrose Dery and Dr Nurah Gyeile as Interior Minister and Minister of State at the Ministry of Agriculture respectively and also, appointing Mr. Anthony Karbo as a Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways.

Mr Alhassan appealed to traditional rulers to provide him with the best counselling and guidance to enable them to implement the policies and programmes of the government to enhance development.

He said government depended on traditional rulers for good governance at the local level and gave the assurance that his administration would derive its strength from the wise counselling and support of the traditional rulers to ensure peace in the region for development.

On government “Planting for food and jobs”, he said the project was not limited to farmers alone and urged workers to take advantage of the project to increase food production to make Ghana food sufficient.

He appealed to the people in the region to develop interest in the cultivation of grass and sell to livestock owners as fodder to feed their animals in neighbouring countries as an alternative ways of improving livelihoods and incomes.
