Contrary to the perception that the US makes it difficult for Ghanaians who wish to travel to that country to do so, the US Embassy in Ghana has stated that Ghanaians are welcome but should use the right processes to obtain visas.
Press Attaché Sarah Veldhuizen Stealey explained: “We want Ghanaians to travel to the United States and want them to apply for visas the right way. … Don’t rely on visa fixers.”
Her comments come in the wake of the announcement that some 7,000 undocumented Ghanaians are at various stages of deportation from the US.
Ms Stealey confirmed the impending deportation of the Ghanaians but was quick to add that those involved had committed various offences including flouting immigration laws, hence the deportation.
She dispelled the perception that Ghanaians in general were being targeted for deportation, emphasising that law breakers would not be allowed to remain in the US.
Ms Stealey explained that once an individual is able to prove that he or she will return to Ghana after their stay in the US, the embassy would have no issues granting a visa.
“It is up to the individual to demonstrate that and that may mean significant financial ties, long term employment, and family ties [back home] among others,” she explained in an interview with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

DEPORTATION OF GHANAIAN FROM USA BECAUSE THEY FLOUTED IMMIGRATION LAWS MAKES SENSE. SO WHY CAN'T GHANA DO SAME TO OTHER NATIONALS WHO FLOUT OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS? IS IT THAT OUR LAWS ARE NOT IMPORTANT OR WHAT?
There is daylight bribery among the rank and file of the US embassy staff in Ghana in the issue of visas. They also have agents outside the embassy who collect huge sums of money. This must be investigated
US is not heaven rubbish
one American is staying next to my house for many years now.
The consular and the ambassador are all liars. I does not work that way. They have the intention to refuse Ghanaians no matter the geniuity of the applicants documents. They don't even look into any of the so called documents. I applied to US embassy to attend a 4 days conference as a full time master's degree student at KNUST. The school issued me introductory letter stating clearly that I was attending a conference very related and important to the course am reading. My employer GES also gave me visa introductory letter. I had my building and land title documents alongside my 8 acres coca farm and a very personal bank statement from GCB with over ghs20,000 deposits in it. I had my student ID card with me during the day of interview along side my marriage certificate and children birth certificate. I was in high spirit and had no intention of staying in the US because I can't afford to abandon the course I have paid so much money to study. At the embassy and during the interview, the consular didn't look into any of these documents and just refused me the visa. US embassy consular is lying.
hypocrisy is the word that best fit for the US Embassy how many people actually qualified for a visa but turn them down regardless what actually sad about this is our people keep wasting hard earned monies on this ***barred word*** so save us the hypocrisy
How do you demonstrate these when your documents are not taken by the consular to scrutinize them.
So let them also be caught and deported. You and i know we cannot do that. Send even the director there he will be bribed and he will leave them.
this is unacceptable from your outfit... how do you want Ghanaian to demonstrate his or her family ties,, when there is a document prove to that effect .. birth certs and marriage certs are part of the application.. to prove all this reasonable doubts of family ties... we believe in extended family moreover with employment .. there are other documents such as payslip. employment letters, bank statements to clarify all these reasons, sometimes even land titles and property to prove the application worthy. yet the USA embassy would definitely refused especially when your below forty years.. there are number of Americans in Ghana who has over stayed their simple RB1/B2 visas yet .. no one hunts them for such because we strongly believe that when given the chance their visas can be renewed by contacting Ghana immigration services .. its rather unfortunate that the lady above and the american consular do errs in their counselor discretion to issue visas when the application is put before them.. all because and the intention is Ghanaian would over stayed his visa.. if you want Ghanaian to travel to the USA for short stay then take out the BUT.. because there are numerous Americans who are in Ghana equally over stayed their visas ..
