NEW YORK—On May 31, 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the Order of “Parental Glory” to Valeriy and Tatiana Novik, Jehovah’s Witnesses from Karelia, who raised eight children, during a ceremony in Moscow at the Kremlin.
The Order of “Parental Glory” was instituted by presidential decree in May 2008. Russia awards this honor to parents who have raised at least seven children and have shown extraordinary care for their family’s health and education, as well as their physical, mental, and moral development. Families awarded the Order are considered models that strengthen the family institution.
David A. Semonian, a spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses at their world headquarters, states: “We view this award as an acknowledgment that the free Bible education provided by Jehovah’s Witnesses helps parents and their children to be productive citizens not only in Russia but all over the world. We hope that this award presented by President Putin is considered on July 17, 2017, when the Russian Supreme Court reviews the decision to liquidate the Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia.”
The ceremony took place at the Kremlin on the eve of International Children’s Day.

James, you say,"if you can't say something nice, don't say anything", I would remind you of the often quoted scripture used by Jehovah's witnesses: Ezekiel 33:8 (AMP) When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will certainly die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man will die because of his sin; but I will require his blood from your hand.
Putin is not praising Jehovah's Witness or Watchtower. What an imagination JWs have. Putin is praising himself. Sister Novik has opened her womb,at a price, for use by Mr. Putin. She is giving birth to Mr. Putin's future Armed Forces. And, Mr. Novik has done his part too, servicing the cows for Putin. Plus, Mr. Novik is sporting an Orthodox Religious Icon. This too makes Putin happy, as his plan is two fold. First, increase the birthrate and second, bolster the Orthodox Church. Study how Putin has been concerned about the makeup of the Russian Armed Forces. Too many muslims. Educated persons who study politics understand what Putin is doing. Watchtower does not understand.
Interesting that Mr Novik proudly sports a badge on his lapel that is emblazoned with a prominent patte cross. Representations of the cross have been spurned as pagan by JWs since at least the late 1920s. Does this represent a softening of their stand against paganism and the trappings of Christendom? Anything to win a second more favourable appraisal from the Russian Supreme Court?
"We face the threat of becoming a senile nation," Russian President Vladimir Putin Mr Putin was shown the demographics of the Russian Armed Forces. It was not difficult to see that it was headed into oblivion. His advisors counselled him to initiate a plan to dramatically increase the birthrate, or else there would soon be nobody to staff the Russian Military machine. This is a fact, not an opinion. Russian families are given large sums of money to have more children and the Novik family made ample use of this provision, making Mr. Putin quite happy. Jehovah's Witnesses have long been counselled that having children was a bad idea, as their understanding of Jesus' prophecy is that it would be bad for children during the imminently occurring "great tribulation". The Novik family decided to discard their beliefs in order to instead satisfy the desires of Mr. Putin. Mr. Putin will be even happier when the Novik children reach military age. When Mr. Putin looks at the Novik children, he sees the Russian Armed Forces new members. It is interesting that the JW.org site would help boast the success of Mr. Putin's military incubator. It demonstrates how little thought they put into anything.
@ George. Don't behave as our God we know. You can't be the judge here. You better keep mute than to act as being all-knowing for you know nothing.
Signs of good things to come? Let's see.
Way to go, Curious George. Take something positive and try to turn it as negative as you can. What's that saying..."if you can't say something nice, don't say anything". I congratulate ANY parents who can raise children today with all of the things in this world that make it such a challenge.
What seems very ODD to me, is that a Jehovah's Witness family would allow themselves to receive an award such as this, in such a public, flashy setting. The very books that poster DUTTON mentions above, are very stern in their warnings to "avoid bad associations," or to "remain spiritually strong." The Jehovah's Witnesses are very insistent that their members avoid attracting undue attention to themselves. Always put "Jehovah first." This is why they don't stand up for national anthems, they don't join sports teams, they aren't allowed to celebrate birthdays, or other holidays. They also must abstain from political activity. Any such participation can be interpreted (by them) as a form of idolatry, which can result in a member getting 'disfellowshipped,' and being shunned by family members (yes, same as Scientology). So, here this family is posing, AND shaking hands with the Russian president (political + bad association), accepting awards and receiving applause from government officials (idolatry + political), and doing so on "International Children's Holiday." Meanwhile, the JW organization parades this family on their OWN WEBSITE, JW.ORG, while thosands of JWs are being told to "stand firm" in their beliefs, and NOT do what this family is doing. JWs are expected to go to jail for their beliefs, when the situation gives no option. Jehovah's Witness leadership are the world's biggest con artists and hypocrites. Do as they say, but not as they do. Also, odd that they would cover news from Russia on their own website, but COMPLETELY ignore the vast abuse problem which has turned up in news accounts from all over the world. Search "Jehovah's Witness abuse" in the news tab of you favorite search engine, and you'll get an eyeful. It's disgusting.
With all due respect, are JW's the only religious group that can better raise their children. At least that is what I read from these comments. There are equally good families who are not necessarily Jws. Congrats to the family but let's not make it sound otherwise.
This should reflect in the decision to be made by the supreme court against JWs because they are a peace loving group and the allegations leveled against them are not only unfounded but wicked. Jehovah is supreme and his will would reign
