Mr Emmanuel Nii Ankrah, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has cautioned drivers to guard against alcohol as Christmas approaches.
He further warned them not to be influenced by greed to overload their vehicles or speed to reach their destinations at limited time as such situations could cause accidents.
Nii Ankrah gave the warning in a Christmas message to the GPRTU members and said it was important to remind drivers of some behaviour that usually caused accidents, such as speeding, unnecessary overtaking, and refusal to observe mandatory rest period.
He commended the road transport regulatory agencies for their good work in trying to deepen the sensitisation efforts.
Nii Ankrah expressed the hope that through collaborative efforts by all social partners, members of the GPRTU and stakeholders, the carnage would be minimise on the road.
He wished all commercial drivers a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year in advance.
