Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has called on the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to sack and revoke certificates of teachers who sexually abuse students.
He also suggested that such teachers be jailed, banned from government employment and also made to compensate their victims.
These sanctions, he said, if introduced by the MoE and the GES, will help to deal with the current canker in the teaching profession and also serve as a deterrent to others.
Speaking in an interaction with Adehye FM's Elisha Adarkwah at the inauguration of a six-unit classroom block which he built at Kronum Kwapra in the Suame constituency, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu attributed the rise in sexual abuse and harassment of students by some teachers and headmasters to the ineffectiveness of the inspectorate division of the GES.
He, therefore, called for the inspectorate division to be proactive to monitor teachers and students at all times.

Hypocrisy on display in Ghanaian society. Solution is, we must go back to the days when conscience was the THING and not Money. Every sector has it laws. So pls MP let our law work in this case else, you will be held for contempt oo.
what headline is this? osei bonsu is minority leader?
thank you sir. u made my day
With these kind of issues u can come out n talk. when u never sit to discuss the welfare of the teachers. 'jail him' u can say
How can the GES inspectorate division possibly be able to check this? Would they also go to the bedrooms of teachers? I find this hilarious Mr Mensah, how about you and your colleagues who do worse than the teachers? Funny world
Well said, Mr. Kyei! But how about Legislators who date these small girls still schooling? Are they to be left out? You see, we need a wholistic approach in protecting our young ladies. The general perception about you Mps is that most of you date young ladies still schooling. The ladies do so out of duress; you are paid well and ride in winderful cars/vehicles. Check it from that corner too, sir. Thank you.
What of MPs and ministers who date students? They should be killed abi. This comment by the Hon Member of parliament is needless and should not be given any prominence. An advice could have been better.
Many students are being sponsored by their teachers. Many politicians also sponsored students all for CONSIDERATIONS. IF WE GO BY THIGOSUGGESRION, ALMOST HALF THE TEACHERS AND POLITICIANS WILL LOST THEIR JOBS
My brother, this act varies from level to level, at the pre tertiary level, this venerables are influence by money to survive. Create jobs for parents and regularly organize counseling services at least once every academic year. At the tertiary level its because of class most ladies give out themselves. The question is what should we do? Come for solutions. At the pre tertiary level, it is assume they are below 18years hence you have to protect them and the law is against this act. Now the issue is about how to address the menace cos its only not in schools but should be looked at comprehensively. [email protected]
