The National Director of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), Chief Superintendent Owusua Kyeremeh says the Children’s Act, (ACT 560) of 1998, stipulates that fathers who shirk their responsibilities towards their children could be jailed at least three months.
She explained that if a mother reports to DOVVSU that her children’s father is not taking care of the children, DOVVSU will quickly file a case to the Family Tribunal (court), where the said father will be advised to ensure the wellbeing of the child/children.
She again added that if the said father fails to comply with the Family Tribunal’s order of providing for the children, DOVVSU will take the matter up to the criminal court, where the children’s father will be fined or jailed for not more than 12 months, if found guilty of the offence (Clause 15 of ACT 560).
Speaking on 'The Sonto Show' hosted by radio newscaster Akua Sonto on Agoo TV, Chief Supt. Owusua stated that the ACT enjoins parents to ensure the welfare of their children.
According to Chief Supt. Owusua, fathers who neglect their children are top on DOVVSU’s data, hence entreated single mothers to report irresponsible fathers to their outfit for investigation and prosecution.
She urged parents to respect children’s rights to education, medical care, shelter, leisure amongst others.

what happens to children who neglect their fathers when they become successful and their father is old.
Some women even don't give the men the opportunity to be in their children's lives. They block the men even when they are married. Whatever the men provide, they will tell the children they did that. And worse off is after divorce. They will make sure that the children do not see their father again. What kind of wickedness is this? Society has not been fair to men at all. Women are more wicked than men.
And what happens to mothers who neglect their children?? Or u think is only fathers that neglect their children?. Come and i'll show u not less than 10 fathers who single handedly raised their children while their mothers were following big men around for money. It is evidently clear that women, when given power, want everything to work in their favour. But some women are wicked than the lucifer himself. Some are good though.
