Mr. Evans Opoku-Bobie, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister designate, has entreated the youth to stay away from drugs, particularly Tramadol that could ruin their lives.

He observed that there were a lot of challenges and problems affecting the youth and appealed to stakeholders to join the nationwide fight against drug abuse to save the lives of the country’s present generation of youth to get responsible future national leaders.

Mr Opoku-Bobie, also a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asunafo North Constituency gave the advice when the Brong-Ahafo Chapter of the Activista Ghana presented a communiqué to him at the Regional Coordinating Council as part of the activities to mark the regional celebration of the 2018 International Youth Day on Wednesday in Sunyani.

It was under the theme “Save Space for Youth in Governance”.

The Activista group are young Ghanaians who have participated in capacity building workshops on the implementation of the African Governance Architecture (AGA) and the Africa Charter on Democracy Election and Governance (ACDEG), organised by ActionAid Ghana.

He urged the youth to use their energies to contribute to the development of the nation and also encouraged them to always seek information that was geared towards their progress from the appropriate Ministries and Agencies.

Mr Opoku-Bobie reiterated that government had instituted measures and designed programmes that were necessary to advance the lives of the youth.

But as individuals and groups, the onus rested on them to take advantage of those policies by government to enhance their livelihoods now and for the future, he added. Mr Opoku-Bobie assured the youth that their petition would be forwarded to the appropriate quarters in Accra for redress.

The youth in a communiqué presented earlier by Mr Kwabena Amoateng, the Regional Assistant Coordinator of the Group, stated that the role of the youth for sustainable national development was very paramount and appealed to government to take steps in creating opportunities for the nation to get the best out of them
