The Ghana Education Service in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region has asked headteachers of schools in the District to release their pupils to line up on the streets in honour of a Presidential visit on Thursday.
According to the letter communicating the directive, President Nana Akufo-Addo will be in the District to engage stakeholders on “the development agenda of the country and also commission a one district one factory [project].”
The notice, dated November 20 and signed by District Education Director, Mavis Yirenkyi, directed teachers in some 11 basic schools and a senior high school within the district to accompany their pupils for the exercise.
The listed schools are Saviour Cambridge Junior High School (JHS), South Senchi D/A JSH, New Akrade Presby JHS, Atimpoku D/A JHS, Ankyease D/A JHS and Akwamu-Abuakwa D/A JHS. The rest are Akwamu-West Presby JHS, Akosombo VRA JHS No1, Akosoombo VRA JHS No2, Senchi-Ferry Methodist JHS and New Senchi RC JHS.
The letter also requested students from the Akwamuman SHS to join their junior colleagues to “line up along the principal streets from New Akrade, through Atimpoku to Akosombo, to welcome the President and his entourage.”

I wonder why people are in support of this ***barred word***,why should our children be on street just to welcome the president, are we serious as a nation? let them be in the class room and learn please.
Another trash from this govt. Why should pupil to learning to line up in stress.Instead thinking positively its all about leaving in dark ages.
THE LINING UP ON THE STREETS BY SCHOOL CHILDREN TO WELCOME A DIGNITARY HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE THE DAYS OF ADAM IN OUR SCHOOLS. SO I THINK ALL THOSE MAKING UNNECESSARY NEGATIVE COMMENTS ARE ALIENS. SOMEONE MUST SCHOOL THEM THE HISTORY OG GHANA.
The poor boy who might not have eaten the whole day should stand in the sun for hours and wait for the President. This is ***barred word*** and it must stop.
When God created man, he was naked...so should we go naked? it is absolutely insane to line up pupils for this purpose. We lack the right leaders in this country, i dont expect a power drank man like Nana to be the one to put a stop to this. and no one would bcos we black people and our mind is black like charcoal
this act must stop!!! i am an npp sympathiser but i dislike this idea. why should pupils leave their books to meet and shout to welcome the president. how will ghana benefit from this??? in uk, no pupil leaves the classroom to meet the prime minister, meanwhile they're doing just fine. lets learn to move away from this aweful act, and also stop the long fleet of presidential entourage!!!
This is noe News, he is the president of the Land , when I was a kid when Former President Rawllingd was coming to my village we did same
things like this should be a thing of the past. If was done centuries ago doesn't mean its still relevant. Its waste of time, energy and resources. The president is meeting stakeholders on industrial issues not education.
what is wrong with that?
@Fawazi thanks a lot. Students were lined up in the streets of Accra to welcome the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwell. And for as long as I have lived in this country, students have always been lined up to receive the president especially when he is on a working visit So what's the point? Could peacefmonline please tell us the rationale behind this publication? Maybe parliament has enacted a law against this practice...kindly let us know.
