Workers of the Accra Central section of the railway industry precisely, Kantamanto have laid down their tools until further notice.
The General Secretary of the Railway Workers Union, Godwill Ntarmah, in an interview with UTV’s Ama Sarpong Kumankuma explained that “Government has not paid our salaries since January till date. Rather the internally generated funds have been the sources of capital to workers since January to June”.
He added that “Labour Commission including other authorities involved to solve the problems facing the sector have not made any effort towards our numerous grievances, follow-ups and letters written in effect to the issue at hand”.
According to him, the Ministry of Finance has indicated to them that their services are not needed in the transport agency, therefore the reason behind their neglect.
“This time we are not coming back to our duties until our salaries are fully paid,” he angrily said.
