There is a high voter turnout at most of the polling stations that GNA visited in the Chereponi bye elections with some voters already casting their votes, while a lot queued to exercise their franchise.


At the TB Chereponi Polling Station, 13 out of 831 registered voters had cast their votes as at 7:15am. The Presiding Officer for the Polling Station, Mr. Avoke Francis, said 10 Police officers were at post with NPP, DPP and NDC Party Agents monitoring the elections.

Adams Haruna who is the Presiding Officer for EP Primary Polling Station at Cherponi Township, said 31 out of the 130 registered voters for the polling station had cast their votes as of 0728 hours with NDC, NPP, PNC and DPP party agents observing the elections. Mr. Haruna complained of inadequate enumeration papers.

At the local Town Council Polling, 43 people out of 872 registered voters had voted as at 0739 hours with Yakubu Abubakar as the Presiding Officer. He said eleven policemen were at the station with NPP, NDC, PNC party agents also at post.

Gulza Abdul Malik, the presiding officer for La Primary School at Mazawose, where 38 out of 109 registered voters had voted as at 0807 hours. Thirteen police officers were deployed to the station with NPP, NDC, DPP and NVP party agents also at post.

There had not been any negative incident and everything was reported to be going on smoothly. Meanwhile some functionaries of the NPP, Peter Mac Manu and Dan Botwe were seen at some of the polling station.

In another development, the price of food items had risen sharply at some of the polling stations with a mini Tampico which normally cost one Ghana cedi now selling at 1:50p and a can of malt which sells at 1gh cedi now selling at 150p.
