The incumbent Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Brong-Ahafo was retained on Saturday at a Regional Delegates’ Congress in Sunyani.

A Sunyani-based Lawyer Kwaku Asomah Kyeremeh was re-elected with 259 valid votes in an election attended by 530 delegates under the supervision of a team from the Electoral Commission, led by Mr George Gyabaah, the Regional Director.

A former Regional Chairman and businessman in Sunyani, Mr Kwadwo Yeboah Fordjour, the closest contestant lost by 43 votes as he polled 216 from the 524 valid votes cast whilst another Lawyer, Mr Kwame Twumasi Awuah garnered 35 votes.

Interestingly, four years ago Mr Fordjour lost by the same margin of votes, 43 to Mr Kyeremeh at the same venue, Sunyani Catholic Pastoral Centre where the election was organised.

The position of First Vice Chairman was contested by four candidates including Mr Paul Okoh, former Member of Parliament for Asutifi North and Mr Joseph Yaw Appiah, a Businessman and Football Administrator.

Mr Thomas Adu-Appiah, a Businessman from Nkoranza was elected with 196 votes and the incumbent, Shaibu Musah Bamba lost the position with 84 votes.

The incumbent Regional Secretary Alfred Ofori Annye was overwhelmingly re-elected with 392 votes while his only contestant, Robert Dwomoh Mensah, a Party Activist had 192 votes.

Kofi Ofosu Boateng, former Regional Director of Communication for the Party was elected Deputy Regional Secretary with 324 votes as his only rival, Mr Jephthah Appau, a Party Activist in the Asunafo South Constituency received 204 votes.

Other positions elected were second Vice-Chairman, Mr Joseph Mensah from Sampa, Regional Organiser, Mr Ali Maiga Halidu of Sunyani West and Regional Women Organiser, Mrs Dorothy Ama Amponsah, also in the Sunyani West.

Mr Kwame Baffoe, a Youth Activist from the Sunyani West beat the incumbent, Nana Sekyere Boateng, a Lawyer to be the new Regional Youth Organiser.

The incumbent Treasurer, Alhaji Issaka Issah had landslide victory with 411 votes to retain his position while his only contestant, Kwaku Boadi-Kwaakye had 115 votes.

Mr Fordjour advised Mr Kyeremeh to avoid divisive tendencies and endeavour to bring everybody on board for the party to regain political power in 2016.

Mr Kyeremeh said he would continue to work effectively in collaboration with all factions to reverse the dwindling fortunes of the party.
