Deputy Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation, William Kusi Sabi, has rejected calls for the government to downsize its ministers, stating each of the 110 ministers is useful in the Akufo-Addo administration.

Though he said it is not within his power to decide on the number of ministers to constitute the government, in his view, the number does not matter as long as their output satisfies the government’s agenda.

Ghanaians have the number of ministers appointed by President Akufo-Addo to run his government, with some arguing the record high number is having a toll on the taxpayer.

Nana Akufo-Addo has on a number of occasions defended the numbers, it is in line with the agenda his government has to prosecute.

Speaking on 3 FM’s Sunrise morning show Monday, Mr. Sabi stated that each of the 110 ministers has been strategically placed for the purpose of pursuing the overall agenda of the government.

“The President needs that number of ministers and everybody is also doing his work so I will not find any reason why anybody should not be there,” he said.

While it many have held the government is lagging behind in fulfilling many of the campaign promises after 19 months in office, Mr. Sabi insisted government is on track.

From his estimation, it is too early to start judging the government on its promises.

“The four year period given to government has not ended and the government knows that it has to start from stages and to reach certain stages. You cannot just say that I will establish One district One factory and you come first month and all factories are made”, he argued.

He added the National Identification Authority is working around the clock to give Ghanaians a new Ghana card.
