A delegation from the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) have met with the Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa Doe, to solicit her concern on how best she can help the association improve on the businesses of small scale enterprises.

The six-member delegation was led by Bright Blewu, the secretary of the association. Speaking at the function, Mr Blewu said the visit was to promote using the media to promote business advocacy which seeks to articulate the concerns of business people. They said the visit was necessary due to the change of government and how best the association can explain to the minister, its policies and programmes initiated for businesses for the past years.

According to him, the move, which forms part of media development, was to make the media advocates of the activities of businesses as well as aiding whichever government is in power to help Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) to expand.

A service provider for the GJA, BUSAC fund and Kab Governance Consult project, Marian Kyei, further explained that the project was to strengthen business advocacy and to seek the support of the regional minister on the sector.She expressed the hope that the minister will use her experience in social welfare to fight for the recognition of SMEs in the various district assemblies.

Madam Benyiwa-Doe, on her part, disclosed that plans were underway for her government to reintroduce the re-training and re-equipping of master craftsmen in the educational system, to enable them have a sound education.

She added that the sewing of school uniforms will be awarded to district assemblies to enable local dressmakers earn something. She said the regional coordinating council has directed the district assemblies to fish for private enterprises and find out how best they can assist them to expand their businesses.
