Campaign Coordinator of the Nana Konadu for 2012 Campaign Team, Michael Teye Nyaunu, has scoffed at the Daily Dispatchs list of possible government appointees to be named by former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings should she become president.
Ben Ephsons Daily Dispatch published in Wednesday, June 8, 2011 edition a list of close associates of the Rawlingses and their political appointments. The list, according to the paper was left unattended to at a meeting by a leading member of the Mrs Rawlings team.
It included Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alban Bagbin for running mate, close associate, Herbert Mensah for Chief of Staff, Former President Rawlings for Head of Security, Kwamena Ahwoi for Presidential Advisor, and Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah for Foreign Affairs, among others.
But Hon Teye Nyaunu has discounted the supposed list, saying the thought of who becomes what in Mrs Rawlings government has not even been discussed by members of the team, given the number of years to the elections, stressing some may even die before the elections.
According to Mr Teye Nyaunu, Mrs Rawlings priority is how to battle the flagbearership race, adding that we do not have any space and time to talk about appointees. When we cross that bridge; the next one is to talk about campaign. It is during this period that you can think about people to fit into positions. You do not think about people to put in positions when you are far away from the battle itself.
How could somebody in his right senses endeavor to pen down people who will be working in offices in one and half years time? That will be too naive and immature.
Hon Teye Nyaunu said the publication is a calculated attempt to create enemies within ourselves.
Asked what he made of his appointment as Secretary to the President, Hon Teye Nyaunu said if she feels that I am worthy to occupy any public office, I will not reject it
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Joseph Yammin who has been included in the list to head the Ministry of Lands and Forestry has welcome the idea, saying I am ready to work and indeed if this is the projection of Mrs Rawlings, then thank God.
Even though he would wish for a different ministry when given the opportunity to choose, Mr Yammin said he was ready to serve in any capacity should he be given the offer.
He said, I may wish for a different appointment if I am given the platform to choose; but Im also ready to serve in any capacity. The most important thing is for you to manage a ministry, and that, I think I am ready to do that. If indeed this publication is really the thought of Mrs Rawlings, then I would want to say thank you in advance for even having me in mind because some of us are ready to contribute our quota to the development of this country.
