Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor has sent a heartwarming birthday message and a friendly piece of advice to his predecessor, former President Jeremiah John Rawlings who turned 64 on Wednesday, June 22nd.
�Rawlings is blessed�God has indeed honoured him,� he stated in an exclusive interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on PeaceFM�s �Kokrokoo� programme.
The recently named joint-winner of the World Food Prize Foundation Award also asked Mr. Rawlings who ruled Ghana for some 19-years to �love God more, and cool down his temper�.
�I didn�t know it�s his birthday (today)�and it has coincided with my being named an award winner�good� I wish him all the best on this great occasion,� he said.
Mr. Kufuor admitted that �it�s not easy to rule a country like Ghana for about 19-years�, but opined that the former President was able to do so because of God�s blessings on his life.
�He should calm down and control his temper� and rather thank God,� he jovially said.
The former President, (born Jeremiah Rawlings John) was born on June 22, 1947 to Victoria Agbotui from Keta and to James Ramsey John, a Scottish chemist working in the then Gold Coast.
He married Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings in 1977 and together they have four children: three girls and a boy.
He enlisted as a Flight Cadet in the Ghana Air Force in August 1967, and was subsequently selected for officer cadet training at the Ghana Military Academy and Training School, Teshie, in Accra.
Rawlings ruled Ghana as a military dictator in 1979 and from 1981 to 1992 and then as the first elected president of the Fourth Republic from 1992 to 2000.
He is the joint recipient of the 1993 World Hunger Award which he used as seed capital in establishing the University of Development Studies (UDS) in the north of Ghana.
Ex-pesident John Kufuor who led the drastic reduction of hunger and poverty in Ghana has been named with Luiz In�cio Lula da Silva, former president of Brazil as winners of the 2011 World Food Prize.
The World Food Prize Foundation is honoring John Agyekum Kufuor and Luiz In�cio Lula da Silva, for creating and implementing government policies that alleviated hunger and poverty in their countries.
