The Youth Wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demanding an apology from a radio commentator for some unfavourable remarks he made about party flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo.

Here is the full statement issued by the group

The Youth Wing of the NPP has noted with distaste the attacks on Nana Akufo-Addo, 2012 Presidential Candidate of the NPP, on various media by Owula Mangotey, a self styled social commentator, last weekend.

Mr. Mangotey claims Nana Addo had described some section of the audience at the fully packed hall in London recently as Jezebels. Mr. Mangotey then proceeded to attack Nana Akufo-Addo, whilst quoting and juxtaposing his assertion and selective hearing with Biblical verses.

We point out to Mr. Mangotey that Nana Addo never described anybody as Jezebels. What Nana Addo said was decibels which is used to indicate the volume of sound/noise. What he claimed to have heard was total fabrication and far from what was on the tape he purported to be quoting from.

A direct quote from what Nana Addo said reads: I have been told that its not just NPP people who are here. The majority, from the sound of the decibels, the majority are NPP. But there are other shades of opinion here as well. Thats the way we want we want our country to develop

The Youth Wing therefore calls on Mr. Mangotey to apologise to Nana Addo and to withdraw the unsavoury words he used against his person.

We would not like to emulate Mr. Mangotey in the culture of deliberately heaping insults on political opponents, like our opponents do anytime they get the opportunity. The politics of our country, we believe, is about the development of this country and not vile propaganda and lies.

It is a shame that our politics has been reduced to name calling and character assassination to say the least.

Signed..........
