Former President Jerry John Rawlings will be the Guest of Honour and lead speaker at a public lecture in Accra on Wednesday morning to mark the 30th anniversary of the 31st December Revolution.
A statment issued by the organising committee of the celebration on Tuesday said, the lecture, under theme:"Three Decades of Grassroots Participation: Its Relevance to the Current Political Dispensation, is being organised by the Cadre Front at the National Theatre.
The statement said other speakers would include Mr Paul Victor Obeng, Dr. Mrs. Mary Grant and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. The celebrations commenced on December 20 with a medical outreach at Bukom and Nungua.
According to the programme, on December 31 there will be a route march from El Wak Stadium through the 37 Military Hospital to the Revolution Square, opposite the Flagstaff House, where there will be a parade and wreath laying ceremony in memory of Fallen Heroes.
Former President Rawlings on December 31, 1981 led a group of soldiers to overthrow the late President Hilla Limann.
He then ruled as a military leader until 1993 when he was sworn in as president, after winning an election in 1992 and served two four-year terms till December 2000.
