Outspoken NPP Member of Parliament for Assin North, Hon Kennedy Agyapong, staged a dramatic walk-out from the studios of an Accra-based private radio over an issue that was indirectly related to the Woyome scandal.
It all started when the NPP MP contributing to discussions on JoyFMs News Analysis programme Newsfile, asked for more heads to roll following the arrest of businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a co-opted member of the Volta Regional Executive of the NDC and a former Vice Honorary Consul of Austria to Ghana, the Chief State Attorney, Mr Nerquaye-Tetteh and Director of Legal Services at the Ministry of Finance, Paul Asimenu.
The Assin North MP made a strong case for the arrest and trial of some NDC bigwigs and called for the immediate resignation of Chief of Staff, John Martey-Newman; Deputy Attorney-General, Ebo Barton-Odro and the Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor for various roles played in the controversial Alfred Woyome judgment debt saga.
He alleged the infamous judgment debt totaling GhC51 million awarded the NDC financier was orchestrated by a whole syndicate that goes beyond the persons cited in the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) interim report and prayed the EOCO to come out with the full list immediately.
Though EOCO's Interim Report revealed that the Chief State Attorney, Mr. Nerquaye-Tettehs wife, received GHC 400,000 from Mr Woyome, the NPP MP alleged there exists a Castle Account and a GBC Account (Ghana Broadcasting Corporation).
Of the GBC Account, the Assin-North MP, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications, claimed it was used to launder an alleged GHC5 million. According to him, the NDC MP for Sene, Hon Twumasi Appiah, who is the Chairman of the Committee, had informed him earlier in the week that parliament received complaints from GBC on the account and that parliament was going to sit to investigate the veracity of the allegations in the coming days.
The reference to him, prompted the NDC MP to quickly call into the programme to debunk the allegations. He accused the NPP MP of only being vocal on radio but lacking the ability to raise such topical issues on the floor of the House because he is fully aware that he will be subjected to strict proof.
He slammed Hon Kennedy Agyapong for parading himself as a patriotic citizen but failing to attend committee meetings to bring out such issues of national concern.
If Mr. Agyapong thinks he has information, lets thrash it out. Your constituents voted for you to be here, to be in parliament. Lets do the deliberations here, not on radio.
Riled by the accusations, the NPP firebrand in a sharp riposte, ripped into the Sene MP describing him as an idiot and accusing him of not only being an habitual late-comer at Committee meetings, but also attending such meetings intoxicated by wee.
This is the second time the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Communication has been accused of coming to parliament under the influence of weed or marijuana.
It would be recalled that, at the zenith of the NDC FONKAR/GAMES, Hon Michael Teye Nyaunu, the MP for Lower Manya Krobo, allegedly made similar remarks after Nana Konadu, the presidential aspirant he was rooting for, came under unwarranted attacks led by Hon Twumasi.
According to the NPP MP, in some instances, the strange behavior of Hon Twumasi leads to suspension of sittings or the Ranking Member on the Committee, Nana Akomea to sit in for him.
I take [an] exception to what he said that I dont even attend meetings. As a chairman as he is, even [when we were discussing the budget] how many times did he come with a clean face. You go and smoke your wee. .. He is a wee smoker, he goes out there, he doesnt even do anything, please, please, I am not scared of that id***, he said.
Asked by the host, Matilda Asante, to cease his vituperative attacks on the NDC MP and to also retract and render an apology to him for his offensive language or walk out, the CEO of Kencity Media chose the latter, but not before he shot back saying you cant intimidate me because I also have a TV station. Get it straight.
