Audio Attachment:Listen to the recorded phone conversation between Kofi Adams and Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko |
Kofi Adams, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Special Aide to ex-President Rawlings, has described as baseless and without merit, reports that he is scheming at running his own party down following the recording of a private conversation he is alleged to have had with Executive Director of policy think-tank Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.
Ghanaian Lens newspaper, in a publication on Tuesday, 20 March 2012, claims Kofi Adams has vowed to ensure that the NDC loses this years presidential polls and went further to describe him as a traitor within the party.
The paper also claimed Kofi Adams has been frustrating all attempts to reconcile the NDC leadership and the Rawlingses.
According to the publication, right after the NDCs Sunyani Congress, Kofi Adams reached out to Gabby and pledged his personal commitment to ensure that President Mills who defeated Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings for the NDC's presidential mandate fails in his bid for re-election in the December polls.
The newspaper alleges this "agreement" with the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, which was made on phone, was recorded (tapped).
The leaked tape had a voice purportedly that of Mr Adams, saying he will do all he can to prevent President Mills from securing the mandate from Ghanaians for a second term.
But speaking on Peace FMs flagship programme, Kokrokoo, Mr. Adams challenged the authenticity of the recording insisting that it is part of a grand scheme to tarnish his image.
Admittedly, he said, Gabby Otchere Darko is his friend and therefore sees nothing wrong if he interacts with him. According to him, during the height of the FONKAR/GAME brouhaha, Gabby's newspaper and some other private owned newspapers helped in disseminating and publishing works of the candidate he supported, Nana Konadu, since most of the pro-government newspapers were unwillingly to give her that opportunity.
It does not make any senseit is not possible for me to make such a call there is nothing credible in the story. Gabby Otchere Darko has been my friend for a very long time and I have never said anything of that sort to himI have been speaking to him because he does some work relating to the work I doAll that I can say is that no attempt to vilify my person will succeed, Kofi Adams said.
Below is the full conversation between Gabby Otchere Darko and Kofi Adams.
Adams: Atta Mills is not deserving of being president over this country after he finishes with first term. Whatever it takes for him to go to opposition well do it.
Okyere-Darko: What I noticed was that they packed the place with observers ah.
Adams: Yeah, yeah
Okyere-Darko: So the place was intimidating.
Adams: they played an intimidation tactics. The almost over 1000 observers were their people. They were using them to intimidate the delegates. Apart from the Gh 500 they paid to every single delegate yesterday night.
Adams: GH500 to every single delegate.
Okyere-Darko: Wow... thats a lot of money.
Adams: Yes, a lot of money... but those who bought into that promise will start biting their fingers from tomorrow. Anyway, extend my greetings to your uncle.
Okyere-Darko: By the way, what is the next move my brother?
Adams: When I come well talk. We may arrange so we meet out of this country and talk somewhere.
Okyere-Darko: No problem... Im available so when you come back lets talk but well fought my brother. Brave.
Adams: Ok.
