The controversial son of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Sekou Nkrumah has descended heavily on his sister, Samia, for what he describes as her haste in accepting things on behalf of the family.

Reacting to the acceptance of the supposed lost-and-found diary of Dr Nkrumah by his daughter in the US, Sekou wondered the motive behind his sister’s alacrity in taking up leadership roles in the family when she is not the eldest child.

When the issue of the diary came up earlier this month (April), Sekou Nkrumah cast doubts over the existence of any such diary, saying he had lived in the US for quite a while and that if the said diary existed, he would have gotten wind of it.

Nevertheless, Sekou Nkrumah said he would love to see the contents of the diary.

“I am not saying I should be the one to go and collect the diary but I am saying that I should have been aware of these move that there were some people in the US that they wanted to hand over the diary to the family,” he stated.

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah said it was also necessary for the family to examine the diary to be sure that it was the handiwork of his father before accepting it.

“The whole affair is clouded with a lot of mystery that I personally am not too impressed… That is why I am saying it is not fair for her (Samia) to also do things without consulting other members of the party.”

On why he failed to turn up for the 40th anniversary celebration of his father’s death, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah explained that he did not belong to the current CPP that organized the anniversary.

“I don’t believe that the [CPP] today is the [CPP] of yesterday that led us into independence. I think that the formation of the CPP under Nkrumah was under entirely different conditions,” he affirmed.

He said the present CPP is a skeleton of Nkrumah’s CPP, which has performed abysmally in all general elections and “has no chance of winning elections in the near future and therefore has the option to either work with NPP or NDC.”
