The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), finds the recent comments made by the Head of Policy, Evaluation and Oversight Unit at the Office of the President as hubris and mundane.

It will be recalled that in the Tuesday July 10, 2012 edition of 60 minutes (a Segment of Radio Gold’s morning show), Dr. Tony Aidoo in his usual vituperative manner, shamelessly stated that the “flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo and members of the opposition party keep whining about Mills’ “Better Ghana” having turned into a “Bitter Ghana” simply because the current business environment is not conducive for trading in cocaine”.

As head of policy, evaluation and oversight unit at the office of the president, one would have thought that any utterance from Dr. Aidoo would be serious enough to enrich public discourse in generating sound policies which will help alleviate the suffering of the Ghanaian taxpayer.

Unfortunately, the reverse has been the case as Dr. Aidoo continuously demonstrates to the Ghanaian people that he lacks the capacity and seriousness required of such sensitive office like the one he currently occupies.

It therefore comes as no surprise to us, that after three (3) years of his appointment, the only thing Dr. Tony Aidoo has to show to the Ghanaian people in terms of achievement is his pay slip and not in the area of policy.

Again, AFAG regards these reckless comments as a breach of the unwritten code of decent language ahead of the 2012 elections as initiated by some respectable persons’ and groups like the National Chief Imam, the Ghana Peace Council, Christian Council, Pentecostal Council etc. AFAG expects these groups to show leadership in the case at hand or risk losing the co- operation of all who have restrained themselves in the face of blatant provocation from Dr. Tony Aidoo and his likes.

Finally AFAG wishes to remind the Head of Policy and Evaluation that the circumstance under which cocaine turned into soda under his government has still not been resolved.

Although the courts have discharged and acquitted DSP Mawenyegah Tehoda, the fact still remains, that the whereabouts of the cocaine is still unknown. Thus if Dr. Aidoo has any words of advice, it should be directed at the Mills-Mahama government (of which he is a prominent member) in resolving the recent ‘cocaine turned soda’ saga.
Thank you.
