President John Dramani Mahama has charged party members, executives and foot soldiers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be vigilant but not violent in the upcoming December General Elections.

In apparent reference to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo’s rallying cry, President Mahama, told NDC delegates gathered at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Thursday that the 2012 election is not an “all-die-be-die” affair.

“I make a commitment to peaceful election and I ask you to send the message back that let us be vigilant but not violent. Exercise vigilance but not violence, this election is not an all die be die,” he said

To him, the NDC is confident of victory in this year’s elections and that it is only a team, fearing defeat that questions the competence of the referee even before the match kicks off.

“When two football teams are playing, the team that is confident of winning wants the match to progress to a successful end but the team that is not confident of winning wants to disrupt the match at every given opportunity. We in the NDC, are confident of our victory and so we want the match to progress in peace and arrive at a successful end,” he said

Whiles pledging his commitment towards a peaceful election, President Mahama expressed optimism that the good works the NDC has pursued in the past three and half years will propel it to victory in this year's polls.

“By the grace of God, by the end of the December elections, the NDC will emerge victorious and as the party that will lead Ghana…God has granted us his favor and like Biblical Joshua, he is walking with us and he is going to take across the Jordan River to the promise land,” he said.
