The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has said he is confident the Vice Presidential candidate of the party, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has the blessing of former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Mr. Rawlings, who is the founder of the party, was on Tuesday absent from the outdooring ceremony of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana - a signal many have interpreted as a disapproval of his nomination.
However, Mr. Nketia feels otherwise, telling Citi News, going by our history, he was not present when we were outdooring His Excellency President John Mahama four years ago at the same event. I dont know whether it was tactical or since I wasnt actually engaged in the nitty-gritties of the planning of the event.
Mr. Nketia maintained that Amissah-Arthur, who also doubles as the Vice President of Ghana, has been fully accepted by all members of the party.
He said: Because of the job he does, after some time, he had to lie low in consistence with the ethics of the job he was pursuing. But we are happy that he is capable of adapting to any situation.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur received an overwhelming support from the Council of Elders of the party and the National Executive Committee when his name was presented to them.
He has promised to help the party win the December elections.
