The breakaway National Democratic Party (NDP) has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of financially inducing its (NDP) leading members to defect.

According to the breakaway party, it has uncovered diabolic moves to spread falsehood on a host of issues about the party which border on criminality, intimidating, harassing and threatening its members, supporters and sympathizers.

An NDP Deputy Director of Communications, Ernest Owusu Bempah, who confirmed this in an interview with Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning show, also disclosed that some leading members of the ruling party, drawn from the Castle, the seat of government, are going round the country trying to use financial and material inducement to influence leading members of the NDP, especially parliamentary candidates as well as regional and constituency executives to defect from the party.

“We have in our possession various tape recordings from four regions which we will release to the media…the recordings in one of the regions captured one person highly connected in high office asking NDP people to leave their account numbers so monies could be deposited in them while they announce their defection and join John Mahama Fun Club…another tape captured another senior office holder in a political party in Ghana, asking NDP executives to sign a resolution for defection to their party in order to be paid some huge sums of money…Indeed all these go to confirm, the assertion of former president Jerry John Rawlings that there is deep seated corruption among political office holders,” Owusu Bempah said reinforcing a statement issued by the leadership of the NDP regarding the alleged bribery allegations.

In his usual outspoken manner of speaking, the NDP firebrand noted that since the party’s formation, it has faced a lot of opposition and attacks masterminded by the NDC.

He believes the ruling party feels threatened by the NDP’s existence and will do everything to sabotage the party, citing the recent tape which implicates the NDC’s National Organizer, Yaw Boateng Gyan planning to infiltrate the NDP.

He, however, called on their cherished supporters to remain resolute in the face of all these evil machinations, stressing that the NDP is focused on restoring participatory democracy, empowering the people, preventing elitism and bigotry, and providing inspirational leadership as a guarantee for national stability and development.
