The spokesperson of the President [John Dramani Mahama], John Jinapor has described the allegations of corruption levelled against his boss by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as acts of desperation after their free education mantra was been "shot down.”

According to him, the NPP has chosen this new tactic because “defeat is staring at them. They have realized that their free education mantra has been shot down and is no more flying and so they are clutching at straws and making all sorts of allegations here and there that are baseless, concocted and unsubstantiated.”

The Deputy Director of Communications of the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa at a press briefing on Monday accused the Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), President Mahama of lacking the ability to confront and fight corruption at the Presidency, within his government and also within the ruling Party.

According to him, the President himself is unable to offer credible answers to serious allegations of corruption raised against his person.

Speaking on Citi FM’s news analysis programme, Eyewitness News, Mr. Jinapor opined that “politics is not for empty talk” and noted that the President’s refusal to respond to allegations of corruption “does not mean he has lost the moral grounds.”

“Yaw Buaben should get a bit more serious. He’s occupied a position that clearly should give him a bit of experience in governance and in management. The President has consistently spoken against corruption. The President at different fora has spoken about his commitment towards fighting against corruption. He has just not spoken about it, he has worked towards ensuring that he roots out corruption,” he explained.
