Institute of Policy and Strategy Development (IPSD), a leading African leadership and good governance training centre, last week announced the institution of the ‘Most Respected Minister Of The Year Award’, with Alban Bagbin, Minister for Health, as winner for the 2012 edition.

The award, which is dedicated to recognizing the outstanding performance and achievement of ministers of state, with the objective of motivating them to aspire for greater excellence in the performance of their functions, was instituted in collaboration with BusinessWeek, one of Ghana’s topnotch financial newspapers and The Corporate Guardian, one of the authoritative international business magazines in the country.

According to the organizers of the event, the decision to award Alban Bagbin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Nadowli West Constituency in the Upper West Region, in the maiden edition of this event “was informed by his exceptional leadership qualities including, punctuality at work, dedication to duty, selfless service to the nation, amongst others”.

“Members of the award panel were also impressed about the current Health Minister’s management skills, leading to the restoration of relative calm and order following the agitations and litany of industrial strike actions which were recorded in the health sector during the period under consideration,” they said.

The presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 20th November, 2012 at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, civil society organizations, business executives, chiefs, opinion leaders and the media are expected to attend the ceremony.
