Managing Editor for the Daily Searchlight newspaper, Ken Kuranchie is calling for a more transparent electoral process in subsequent elections following the anomalies recorded in the December 7 polls.

According to him, more needs to be done by the Electoral Commission to make the process more transparent and believable in order to restore confidence in the process.

Despite applauding the introduction of the biometric verification machines, Ken Kuranchie noted on Citi FM’s weekend news analysis programme Inside Politics, that it was important that Ghanaians saw what went on in the EC’s strong room in an effort to enhance transparency.

In his opinion, “Next time we need to have a wide range of reforms within the EC. I think that there is no reason why for instance we cannot have something computerized that can tell us directly as it goes on in the strong room of the EC that these are the figures that are landing because the process doesn’t belong to Afari Gyan but to the people of this country.”

He noted that, “as the figures come in and are recognized directly, I don’t see why we cannot have a system where we can directly transmit via the internet, via television cameras to the people of Ghana that ‘the record for Suhum has come in, it has been added to the tally."

"I don’t see why we cannot have television cameras in the strong room of the EC so that we also see what is going on so that we have television banks and computer banks as the data is being fed in because there is the need for greater transparency in the whole electioneering process.”
