The family of Chairman of Ghanas Electoral Commission, has jumped to the defense of their brother, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, who together with his office, have been sued over the outcome the recently organized Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Dr. Afari Gyan is second defendant to a petition challenging the results of the 2012 presidential elections by 2012 flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate; Dr. Mamudu Bawumiah and Chairman for the NPP; Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey.
The petitioners claim the elections were rigged to favour the NDCs candidate incumbent, John Mahama.
The plaintiffs have petitioned the Supreme Court to invalidate the results declared by the EC, which saw John Mahama emerge winner and was subsequently sworn into office, as 4th President of the Fourth Republic.
But elder brother of Dr. Afari Gyan, Mr. Martin Kwasi Addae popularly known as Kwasi Kone said, they are not happy at the turn of events because Afari Gyan can never do what he has been accused of doing.
Speaking in an interview with Adom FMs Kofi Adoma Nwanwani at Ayimom near Berekum Jinijini in the Brong Ahafo Region, where Dr. Afari Gyan hails from, Kwasi Kone said: We are not happy at all because I know my junior brother as honest and incorruptible; he has been so truthful to the country that, it is painful that this is how Ghanaians decide to reward him as he retires.
I am a sad man because people are calling my brother a thief and in fact I am sad; please tell Ghanaians to leave my brother alone, he said.
The Adontenhene of Anyimom traditional area, Nana Amankwa Bene added to the statement by Kwasi Kone, saying; the courts will prove the petitioners wrong.
Meanwhile the Chief is worried about the deplorable state of roads leading to the area. They called on government to put the roads in good shape to facilitate the movement of people and farm produce to and from the area.
