The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu Afriye has the described the death threat claims of Michael Ampong, a communications director in the party, as trivial.
Mr Ampong had earlier told XYZ News that he had received death threats after he openly criticized some party leaders over lobbying for Nana Addos candidature for election 2016.
However Mr. Afriye, popularly known as Sir John, dismissed the claims, stating that the NPP was noted for promoting free speech. He (Ampong) is free to come in to the NPP office to discuss his concerns anytime; we do not have any issues with him. When we are trying to find solutions to our partys issues, I dont like to concern myself with these trivialities he said.
But Mr Ampong has described Sir Johns comments as irresponsible. He said death threats of members of the party should be a matter of concern.
Meanwhile the Ghana Police Service has invited two people for questioning over the incidence.
